WordPress Maintenance for Churches

Keep Your Church Website Current Without Managing WordPress Yourself

Your church website needs ongoing attention, but not every website needs the same maintenance plan. We provide WordPress maintenance and support based on the website you already have, the way your church uses it, and the level of ongoing help your team needs.

Ongoing Care

Your Church Website Still Needs Attention After Launch

Launching a website does not mean the work behind it stops. WordPress, themes, and plugins continue to change, while your church’s information, staff, ministries, events, and other content change over time.

Without ongoing attention, software can become outdated, unnecessary plugins can remain installed long after they are needed, and information on the website can gradually fall out of date. Occasionally, an update or change elsewhere in the website can also introduce a problem that needs to be investigated.

Roman Road Studio provides ongoing WordPress maintenance for churches in Canton, throughout Northeast Ohio, and beyond, giving your church someone responsible for keeping an eye on those changes, handling routine WordPress maintenance, and helping when something on the website needs attention.

Maintenance That Fits

Maintenance Based on the Website You Actually Have

Not every church website has the same maintenance requirements. A straightforward informational website has different needs than one managing sermon archives, event registrations, online giving, multiple forms, third-party integrations, or frequent content changes.

We begin by looking at the WordPress website you already have. From there, we can structure ongoing maintenance around what actually needs attention.

The goal is not to add services simply to make a maintenance plan larger. It is to provide the level of ongoing care that makes sense for your church and its website.

What We Consider

How the Website Is Built

The WordPress setup, theme, plugins, and other software the website depends on.

Hosting Environment

Where the website is hosted and the maintenance, backup, recovery, and development tools available there.

Important Website Functions

Sermons, forms, online giving, event registration, integrations, and other functionality your church relies on.

Ongoing Support Needs

How often your team needs help with text, images, website changes, troubleshooting, or other support.

Maintenance Scope

What WordPress Maintenance Can Include

Each maintenance relationship is shaped around the website you already have, the software it depends on, its hosting environment, and the level of ongoing support your church needs.

Intentional WordPress Maintenance

Fewer Plugins. Fewer Things to Maintain.

Plugins are useful when they solve a real problem or provide functionality your church website needs. But every plugin also becomes another piece of software that has to be maintained and kept compatible with WordPress, the theme, and other plugins.

As part of ongoing maintenance, we periodically review the plugins your website depends on rather than simply continuing to update everything that has accumulated over time. If a plugin is unnecessary, redundant, no longer supported, or no longer providing a meaningful benefit, we’ll recommend whether it should be replaced or removed.

The goal isn’t to eliminate plugins. It’s to keep the WordPress installation as lean as practical while retaining the functionality your church actually needs.

Your Hosting Doesn’t Automatically Need to Change

You do not need to move your church website to a particular hosting provider before we can help maintain it. We start by reviewing the environment you already have and determining whether it provides the tools and reliability your website needs.

That includes looking at how the website is backed up and restored, what options are available for testing changes, and whether the hosting environment creates limitations that make the website harder to maintain. If your existing hosting continues to serve the website well, there may be no reason to change it.

When a different hosting environment would provide a meaningful benefit, we’ll explain why and help you evaluate the options. Roman Road Studio is a WP Engine Partner, and WP Engine is our preferred managed WordPress hosting platform when a move makes sense—but using WP Engine is not a requirement for working with us.

Why We Work With WP Engine

WP Engine provides a managed WordPress environment with automated daily backups and restore points, separate production, staging, and development environments, and infrastructure designed specifically for WordPress. Those tools give us additional options for maintaining, testing, and recovering a website when needed.

Additional Support

Some Websites Need More Than Routine Maintenance

A church website with more complex functionality may need additional attention beyond keeping WordPress current and handling routine content changes. The right level of support depends on what the website does, how important those functions are to the church, and what would happen if one of them stopped working as expected.

Depending on those needs, additional maintenance can include more focused testing of forms, event registration, giving integrations, or other important functionality. It may also include additional monitoring, performance review, accessibility review, or troubleshooting where those services provide a meaningful benefit.

We don’t automatically add those services to every maintenance plan. When a website requires more oversight, we’ll identify what should receive additional attention and structure that work around the church’s actual needs.

Maintenance Scope

When a Website Change Becomes a Project

Ongoing maintenance is intended to care for the website you already have. Routine text changes, image replacements, software updates, troubleshooting, and other agreed-upon support can usually be handled as part of the maintenance relationship.

Some requests go beyond maintaining the existing website. A new section of the site, substantial layout changes, new functionality, third-party integrations, or a larger content project may require additional planning, design, development, or testing.

That doesn’t mean we can’t help. When a request extends beyond the scope of ongoing maintenance, we’ll explain what is involved and determine the appropriate next step with you before additional work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

WordPress Maintenance Questions Churches Often Ask

Do we need to host our church website with WP Engine?

No. We can work with other WordPress hosting providers and will first review the hosting environment you already have. If it provides what your website needs, there may be no reason to move.

Roman Road Studio is a WP Engine Partner, and WP Engine is our preferred managed WordPress hosting platform when we believe a different hosting environment would provide a meaningful benefit.

Can you maintain a WordPress website you didn’t build?

Yes, in many cases. We first review the existing website, including its theme, plugins, hosting environment, and important functionality. That helps us understand how the website was built and whether there are issues that should be addressed before beginning ongoing maintenance.

Do you make content changes as part of maintenance?

Yes. Routine changes to existing content, such as updating text, replacing images, changing service information, or updating staff and ministry information, can be handled as part of the maintenance relationship.

Larger content projects, new layouts, or substantial additions to the website may need to be scoped separately.

Are backups included with WordPress maintenance?

Backup capabilities depend partly on where the website is hosted. We review the existing backup and recovery options as part of evaluating the hosting environment and identify whether additional measures are appropriate.

For websites hosted with WP Engine, the platform provides automated daily backups and restore points.

Do you test every form, giving system, and website feature each month?

Not as part of routine maintenance. We perform a periodic visual health check to look for obvious problems with the website, but comprehensive functional testing requires additional time and may not be necessary for every church.

When forms, online giving, event registration, or other functionality is particularly important or complex, additional testing can be incorporated into the maintenance plan.

How do you determine what our church needs?

We start with the website you already have. We consider how it is built, where it is hosted, the software and functionality it depends on, and how much ongoing support your team needs.

From there, we can recommend a maintenance arrangement appropriate for the website rather than placing every church into the same predetermined package.

Do you provide WordPress maintenance outside Canton, Ohio?

Yes. Roman Road Studio is based in the Canton, Ohio area and works with churches throughout Northeast Ohio and beyond. WordPress maintenance and support can generally be provided remotely, so your church does not need to be located nearby.
